Getting in touch with history.
The historical collection of book
of the Johannes a Lasco Library
reflects Emden’s heyday as an
important European seaport of the
16th and 17th century. At that time
Emden was a religious and ecclesiastico-
political centre of North-West Europe,
being influenced above all by Reformed
exiles from the Netherlands. Numerous
exhibits tell this eventful history.
Experiencing culture.
The rebuilt nave is regarded as one of
the most atmospherically rich venues in
Northern Germany. The room offers excellent
acoustics and space for up to 400 attendees
of concerts, receptions and conferences.
Preserving a monument.
Built in the 15th century and heavily
destroyed in an air raid in 1943,
between 1992 and 1995 the church
was carefully complemented with
modern industrial architecture
and thus rebuilt. Besides its importance
for Protestantism in general, the once
ruined church is an important monument
in the history of both the town and the region.
